Lake View City Officials Say Charges Against Mayor Are Unrelated To City Business

Prosecutors have filed a formal felony charge against the mayor of Lake View. Court records indicate John Curtis Westergaard is accused of forgery, a class D felony, and tampering with records, an aggravated misdemeanor. City Administrator, Scott Peterson, says the council has not had any discussion on the allegations, but he did want to assure the public that the charges are unrelated to city governance.

Sac County Attorney, Ben Smith, confirmed the charges are unrelated to city business. Westergaard says he does not intend to resign from his position, and that the charges stem from a deed that he submitted to the courthouse in August.

He adds charges that do not concern city business should not overshadow more than 10 years of service to the residents of Lake View.

Westergaard is scheduled to appear for an arraignment hearing at the Sac County Courthouse on Wednesday, Oct. 17. If found guilty of both charges, he could face up to 7 years in prison and $13,750 in fines.
