Lake View City Council Approves Planned Sewer Rate Increases In Preparation For Lagoon Project

Sewer rates are set to increase in Lake View for the fifth year in a row as the city nears the start of construction for an update to their sewer system. At the last Lake View City Council meeting, councilmembers voted to raise prices by 12.5 percent. City Administrator, Scott Peterson, says the bump in price should come as no surprise to residents as these rate increases have been consistent since Fiscal Year 2013.

The project is estimated to cost about $4.65 million and is slated for completion in 2019. Peterson says residents should expect increases again next year to help pay off that cost.

Peterson says progress on the project has not been as quick as the city would like, and they are still waiting for some paperwork to be approved by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) before they can proceed.

A better estimate of the total cost will be available when a contractor is selected. Construction on the lagoon is expected to begin later this year.
