Lake City’s Half-Million Gallon Water Tower To Receive New Coat Of Paint And Repairs

Lake City’s water tower is getting a fresh coat of paint sometime later this year. The 500,000 gallon structure is located in the southeast section of town near the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and Front Street. City Administrator, Eric Wood, says they will be combining repairs to a standpipe with the water tower work.

The company selected to complete both projects, Maguire Iron out of Sioux Falls, SD, provides water tower construction and repair to thousands of Midwest communities, including Lake City. Wood says their longstanding relationship with the company is going to save them a little bit of money.

Wood says more than a decade has passed since the last time the tower had any exterior work done and it is definitely time for a new coat.

The city does not intend to change the tower’s current light blue color scheme in the project. Formal contracts will be arranged with Maguire Iron at the next Lake City Council meeting on Monday, March 19. Work is tentatively scheduled to take place this spring or fall.
