Lake City’s Annual Fall Fest Takes Place Sunday, Sept. 9

Lake City’s annual Fall Fest is coming up this weekend, and organizers are excited about the many activities they have in store during the event. Fall Fest opens to the public at 10 a.m. on Sunday, Sept. 9, but the town square will have people preparing to compete in the Dell Blair Memorial Cook-Off as early as 7 a.m. Event Coordinator, Mackenzie Gorden, says the contest has been around for more than a decade and the cooks and the tasters take it very seriously.

There will also be a panel of five judges who will make their selection of the top entries. First place in the public’s vote or judges’ vote will receive cash prizes. Cooks can also register to compete in the second year of the meat smoking contest. While people are waiting for their chance to taste the chili, Gorden says they can browse through the many vendors setting up in the Lake City Community Building and the town square.

According to Gorden, Fall Fest is continuing its focus on family-friendly activities. Several inflatables will be available for younger attendees, thanks to the support of Macke Motors. She says they are trying to add new things to the event every year.

At noon in the bandstand, Lake City children between the ages of five and eight can join in the prince and princess contest. Kids will be asked two questions and the winners will be feature in upcoming Western Days and Christmas parades. Fall Fest wraps up at 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoon.
