Lake City Man Sentenced To 15 Years In Prison Following Probation Violations

A Lake City man has been sentenced to up to 15 years in prison after his probation was revoked following a drug arrest in Ames. The ruling against 41-year-old Christopher Lee Gay was handed down Friday in District Court for Carroll County. Gay was placed on probation for three years in 2014 after pleading guilty to first-degree theft, a class C felony, and two counts of second-degree theft and third-degree burglary, class D felonies. The revocation stems from a traffic stop in February. According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Gay was found to be in possession of unused syringes, plastic baggies and a scale at the time. Gay was considered away from supervision after failing to appear for a probation violation hearing on March 5. He was arrested by the Ames Police Department on March 18 for third-degree theft and third-offense possession of a controlled substance. Gay was ordered to serve his original sentence of 10 years in prison on the first-degree theft charge, consecutive to a five-year sentence on the burglary, theft and possession charges.
