Lake City Hopes To Wrap Up Years Of Work On City Code At Next Council Meeting

Lake City officials are hoping to finish up years of work updating and rewriting the community’s code of ordinances at their next city council meeting. According to Administrator, Eric Wood, they will likely be adopting all of the ordinances in a single action. Work on the recodification process started in 2015, and they are now prepared to move forward.

He adds there are no major differences in the new code, and  nearly all of the changes have to deal with phrasing or grammatical changes. The final step before the council approves the updated ordinances is a public hearing. Wood says it would be unrealistic to read through the hundreds of pages of ordinances during a meeting, so the city has made the documents available to the public ahead of time.

If no major concerns are raised, the council hopes to formally accept the new code of ordinances soon after. The public hearing will be held at the next Lake City City Council Meeting at 5 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1 at city hall. The Lake City Betterment Association is also scheduled to appear during that meeting to discuss potentially hiring a shared event coordinator for the community.
