Kuemper Starts School Year With New Faces, New Classroom Offerings And A New Way To Play

There are just a few days left until the first bells ring, welcoming students back to classes. At Kuemper Catholic Schools, President, John Steffes, says they completed four major projects to their various buildings over the break. At the high school, the south side first and second floor received all new windows and a large section of the roof was replaced. The roofing project also encompassed a small section of the St. Lawrence building. With the Grant Road detour, many people were able to watch the demolition of one half of the old fieldhouse and an update to the remaining section to be used for storage. Perhaps the most anticipated change is a new playground at the Holy Spirit Center.

Father Richter will be blessing the playground at Family Fun Night tomorrow (Tuesday), Aug. 21. Steffes says that families can come together on that night for a variety of different activities.

He adds they are welcoming eight new instructors and four new staff members this year. (A list can be found below.) They are very proud of their new theology teacher at Kuemper High School, Grant Monnig, who will be working with their newly developed campus minister position, which Katherine Dae, took on last year. Steffes adds they are pleased to be able to expand on their faith in all subjects across the curriculum. The students will also be seeing some changes and updates in other areas.

And late last week, the staff attended a special retreat at St. Mary’s in Willey to begin the year. Steffes says he can’t wait to get started on Thursday, Aug. 23. It is going to be a great year and there is a lot of excitement amongst the staff to get it going, he says. Parents are reminded that in addition to their website, Kuemper has an app that can be used for updates on activities, lunch menus and much more.
