Kuemper Boys’ State Basketball Send-Off Monday Afternoon

The Kuemper High School boys’ basketball team has had a phenomenal season, beating state champion, top-ranked Western Christian 59 to 47 and hitting a milestone that Kuemper Catholic School System President, John Steffes, says has only been reached one other time.

Steffes says this year is the Sweet 16, the 16th time the team has headed to Des Moines for the state tournament. The seventh-ranked Knights will be taking on the second-seeded Sheldon Orabs on Monday, March 5 at 8:15 p.m. A special presentation will be made prior to that game as Greg Gruber, a loyal Kuemper supporter, will be presented with a Fan of the Game Award. There will be a send-off pep rally on Monday in the Kuemper High School gymnasium from 2:10 p.m. to 2:35 p.m. Tickets are on sale now at the high school office and can be purchased today (Friday) and Monday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Because this is an evening game, there will be no early dismissal on Monday. If Kuemper wins, they will face-off against the winner of the Van Meter and Cascade, Western Dubuque pairing at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday night.
