Jefferson Residence Suffers Damage In Vehicle Accident Monday

A Jefferson residence was hit by a motorist involved in a two-vehicle accident Monday afternoon. The Jefferson Police Department reports an officer was dispatched to Maple and Washington Streets at approximately 4:56 p.m. The investigation revealed that a 1993 Chevrolet Lumina, driven by Kendra Higgins of Grand Junction, was northbound on North Maple Street. When she entered the intersection with West Washington Street, she was met on the right-hand side by a westbound 2005 Ford Taurus, being driven by Wilma Willett of Jefferson. Higgins braked hard and swerved to avoid a collision and Willet took corrective action as well. When Willett swerved, however, she jumped the curb, knocked over a road sign and struck the corner of a home at 300 North Maple. Her vehicle continued on through the yard, finally coming to rest about 60 feet west of the residence. Willett’s Taurus was considered a total loss with about $10,000 in damages, while the residence sustained an estimated $5,000 in damages. Higgins was able to avoid the collision and her vehicle was not damaged. Higgins did receive a citation for violation of conditions of a minor’s school license.
