Jefferson Police Department Responds To Three Motor Vehicle Accidents Friday

The Jefferson Police Department reports they responded to three motor vehicle accidents on Friday, Dec. 28. The first occurred at approximately 2:17 p.m. in the 500 block of North Grimmell Road. A 2009 Kia Optima, owned by Chad Morton and operated by Carter Morton, of Jefferson, was backing out from a private drive and struck a passing 2002 Jeep Liberty, driven by Makayla Randol of Guthrie Center. Damage to both vehicles was estimated at $3,000, and Morton was cited for unsafe backing upon a highway. The next accident occurred at approximately 9:26 p.m. Officers were dispatched to the 700 block of West Russell Street on a report from Alex Bayliss that his vehicle had struck a curb and broken an axle. Upon arrival, the officer notice tire tracks consistent with drifting corners on the snow. When asked, Bayliss admitted to doing so and was cited for careless driving. Friday’s final accident occurred at approximately 11:53 p.m. in the 500 block of North Elm Street. A 2012 Dodge Charger, owned by Sherri Teeples and driven by Jordan Teeples, was stopped in the Casey’s parking lot to speak to somebody and was backed into by a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu, driven by Sue Gunn of Grand Junction. The Teeples vehicle sustained approximately $1,000 in damages. Damage to the Malibu was estimated at approximately $500. No citations were issued, as the accident happened on private property.
