The Jefferson Police Department has initiated an investigation into a theft from a residence in the 300 block of North Chestnut Street. At approximately 10:38 a.m. Friday, Nancy Timmons contacted authorities and reported that some jewelry and a book of checks were missing from her home. Authorities were able to determine that a number of the checks had been written at local businesses. Video from one of these businesses has been obtained and a preliminary suspect has been identified.
