Jefferson PD Announces Receipt Of Grant To Add Two New Defibrillators To Cruisers

The Jefferson Police Department is pleased to announce they have been awarded a grant for the purchase of two new Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) for their patrol vehicles. The application was submitted to Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation this past January. At that time, only one of the city’s police units was equipped with an AED device, and it had already been in use for more than 10 years. Captain Heath Enns says that they have used this unit several times a year for successfully saving the lives of local residents. Oftentimes, the police department is the first to arrive on scene at medical calls and accidents within the city limits and when they assist the Greene County Sheriff’s Office. The AEDs save precious time and improve survival odds as they can be used before Emergency Medical Services (EMS) arrive. Enns adds these are very important tools, but they come with an expensive price tag. Without the grant, the two units would have cost taxpayers $2,790. “The Jefferson Police Department and the City of Jefferson as a whole would like to thank the foundation for providing us the tools to better our services to our community,” Enns says.
