Iowa State Patrol Responds To Nearly 100 Crashes During Sunday’s Winter Storms

The Iowa State Patrol reports they responded to nearly 100 motor vehicle accidents across the state in less than a day this weekend. Officials said in a release on Monday morning that they covered 93 crashes and assisted 131 motorists in an 18-hour period, beginning at 6 a.m. Sunday. Winter storms swept across the southern third and portions of eastern Iowa over the weekend, which left more than a foot of snow in Grand Mound, Park View, Eldon, Muscatine and Sigourney. According to the National Weather Service, Oskaloosa, a city in Mahaska County, recorded the deepest snowfall in the state of 17 inches. The Iowa State Patrol reminds Iowans that winter weather conditions can be dangerous for motorists, and drivers should exercise increased caution when visibility is poor or when slick conditions could exist on roadways.
