Iowa Lands In Top 10 Of States With Highest Student Debt

Schools are getting ready to open their doors back up to students this month, and many college students are getting their finances in order to head into the fall semester. WalletHub, a person finance website, recently released a report of states with the most and least student debt, and Iowa ranked in the top 10 on the high side of debt. The 11 key metrics used to measure all 50 states and the District of Columbia included student debt to unemployment rate among 25 to 34 year olds and share of students with past-due loan balances. Iowa was at number one for availability of paid internships, but eighth in proportion of students with debt and 22nd in the percentage of student loans past due or in default. This all averaged out to place Iowa at number nine in the states with the most student debt. A link to the full report can be found here.
