In the upcoming Environmental Protection Commission meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 17, the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be proposing an increase to the asbestos NESHAP notification fee. The current fee of $100 was set in 2015, with the intent of increasing the number of staff in the program based on stakeholder recommendations. Because the initial notifications were estimated at nearly double what has accurately been tracked since 2015, the proposal is to raise the fee to $200 to cover cost of program administration. If approved by the commission in their March 20 meeting, the change would become effective on April 23.
