Iowa DNR Releases Name Of Teen Drowning Victim At Lake Manawa On Memorial Day

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) has released the name of a teen who drowned at Lake Manawa in Council Bluffs on Memorial Day. Sixteen-year-old Edgar Gregorio Loarca Garcia, of Omaha, Neb., went under the water in the swimming area at about 1:15 p.m. and did not resurface. It is believed he was an inexperienced swimmer. The DNR reports that the death does not appear to be suspicious and an autopsy will be conducted. The Lake Manawa swimming area will be closed for the remainder of the week. The Iowa DNR Parks Bureau and Law Enforcement Bureau were assisted by the Council Bluffs Fire Department, the Omaha Fire Department Dive Team, the Iowa State Patrol, Council Bluffs Police Department and the Pottawattamie County Medical Examiner’s Office. The investigation into the drowning continues.
