In a statement this afternoon (Friday), DHS officials indicated victims are reporting having received a text message that says their electronic benefit transfer (EBT) funds are expiring, and the individual needs to make an immediate deposit. The message includes a link that takes victims to a website that asks for personal information. The department says that the state does not use mobile messaging to share information with EBT recipients and that this is a scam. They advise potential victims to not click on the text message link or provide any personal information.
