Iowa DCI Brought Into Investigation Of Assault In Red Oak

The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has been called in to work with area authorities on a serious assault in Red Oak. The Red Oak Police Department issued a release Wednesday about a call they received at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday of an altercation and the serious injury of 56-year-old Randall James Elarton that had occurred earlier in the day. The Fire and Rescue team began treatment of Elarton at the scene, and he was then airlifted to Creighton Bergan Medical Center in Omaha, Neb. It is believed this is an isolated, targeted incident and there is no threat of harm to the general public. The investigation is ongoing and includes the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, K-9 Unit and Emergency Management team, Red Oak Fire and Rescue, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Crime Scene Unit and the Iowa State Patrol.
