Iowa Central $25.5 Million Bond Referendum Passes

The $25.5 million bond referendum for Iowa Central Community College passed Tuesday with overwhelming approval at a reported 67.5 percent. Voters in Calhoun, Sac, Greene, Buena Vista, Hamilton, Humboldt, Pocahontas, Webster and Wright Counties voted for the measure that will include improvements in Storm Lake, Fort Dodge, Webster City and Eagle Grove. Iowa Central will be constructing a $2.5 million industrial training facility in Storm Lake and will allocate another $3 million for safety improvements to all campuses. There is $3 million allocated for work at Decker Auditorium in Fort Dodge, $2 million for the creation of new career academies and another $2 million for the construction of a new biofuels testing laboratory. The rest of the money is earmarked for various building upgrades and remodeling projects. The property tax assessment for the approved bond will result in an additional $12 per year for a home with a $100,000 assessed value. Pocahontas County: 77 percent, 337 yes and 100 no

Webster County: 70 percent, 2,483 yes and 1,060 no

Wright County: 66 percent, 430 yes and 220 no
