The Iowa Department of Public Health (IDPH) has posted their second Request for Proposal (RFP) for a second medical cannabidiol manufacturer in the state. Interested parties must express their intent to apply by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16. Formal applications must be turned in to the IDPH by Thursday, May 31, and they will announce the intended licensee on June 29. The state’s first cannabidiol manufacturer, MedPharm Iowa, was licensed in November of last year and is required to have products ready for distribution by December. The new licensee must have products available by July 1, 2019. Under Iowa law, patients or their primary caregiver may obtain medical cannabidiol for treatment of cancer, multiple sclerosis, seizures or other similar conditions, but they must first obtain a Medical Cannabidiol Registration Card. Since May 2017, the IDPH has approved 346 card applications.
