ICCC Outlines Spending Plans For $25.5 Million Bond Referendum

Iowa Central Community College (ICCC) is preparing for a $25.5 million bond referendum vote on Tuesday, Feb. 6. Residents from area counties will be voting to determine whether the 50-year-old institution, with many 50-year-old facilities, will be able to make updates and add value to the educational experience for the future of Iowa’s workforce. Several projects have been outlined for the referendum, including the development of career academies in partnership with local high schools, the building of a $3 million student success center to house all student services as well as renovations of their science and technology buildings to increase their foothold in the ever-expanding Science, Technology, Engineering, Math and Medicine (STEMM) fields. The ICCC board is also proposing the use of a portion of the funds to update and renovate training facilities in Webster City and Storm Lake, updates to increase the safety and security of students, physical structure improvements to dated buildings and relocating the Iowa Central fuel testing lab and research center that has outgrown its current space. The $25.5 million referendum is expected to increase property taxes by about $12 per year for a home with an assessed value of $100,000 and $100.12 per year or $8.34 per month for a 500 acre parcel with an assessed value of $2,000 per acre. The ICCC District includes the counties of Carroll, Calhoun, Crawford, Greene, Sac, Ida, Buena Vista, Cherokee, Clay, Franklin, Hamilton, Hancock, Humboldt, Kossuth, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, Webster and Wright.
