House Representative Best Says Immigration Reform Is Needed, But Focus Should Be On Supporting Tibbetts’ Family

The entire nation has been polarized by the unfolding story of the disappearance and subsequent location of the body of 20-year-old University of Iowa student Mollie Tibbetts. Upon the confession and arrest of 24-year-old Cristhian Behena Rivera on Tuesday, the story immediately sparked a political reaction on the long-standing immigration debate. District 12 Iowa House of Representatives Republican, Brian Best, says he hates the fact that this has happened here, or that these crimes happen anywhere in this country.

On the other hand, Best says, we need a system of immigration that is different and better than what we currently have. He says there are a lot of immigrants we want to come into this country and we need to ensure that the good ones are able to do it in the right way.

He says he thinks the path of least resistance should be doing it the right way instead of it being someone who smuggles themselves over the border. Best also says that he is not quick to jump onto social media and make bold statements, which is being done by both sides of the debate right now. The most important thing has nothing to do with party affiliation, he asserts, it is for everyone in the state and across the nation to come together and show their support and care for Mollie’s family and friends during this difficult time. Best is running for his third term in office this November, and we will bring you more on his views on other issues facing Carroll-area residents and all Iowans in upcoming broadcasts.
