Health Insurance Costs To Jump Nearly 20 Percent For City Of Lake View

The cost to insure its employees next year is going up by nearly 20 percent for the City of Lake View. The council reviewed the offered health insurance package during a special budget meeting on Monday night, and Administrator, Scott Peterson, says they faced a deadline to decide whether or not to go with .

With the increase, Lake View will spend approximately $21,000 more on health insurance in 2019 than they did for the current year. Peterson indicates the large increase is due, in large part, to a high number of claims that occurred during the year. He says they did try to find alternative plans to no avail.

The new health insurance plans become effective on Jan. 1, 2019. Peterson says the city will likely end up eating most of the expense.

This is the second consecutive year insurance costs have grown for the city. However, Lake View saw rates increase by only 2.9 percent last year.
