Hay Barn Near Breda Destroyed In Friday Morning Blaze

A storage building about four miles northwest of Breda was destroyed by a fire late Friday morning. At approximately 10:20 a.m., the Breda, Arcadia, Auburn, Lake View, Lidderdale, Wall Lake and Westside Fire Departments all responded to 3937 Quincy Avenue after an extension cord sparked a blaze in the hay-filled, 200 foot by 50 foot barn. According to Breda Fire Chief, Dan Wiskus, multiple agencies assisted in the effort due to the unusually warm temperatures. He adds that having multiple crews at the scene allowed for the firefighters to take frequent breaks to avoid fatigue and dehydration. Crews remained at the scene for nearly four hours preventing flare-ups. Nobody was injured during the incident, but the building was deemed a total loss.
