Hawkeye Football Legend, Chuck Long’s Rotarian Presentation Open To Public–RSVPs Due Today

A Hawkeye football legend will be telling his story to the Carroll Rotary and their guests next Monday. Former NFL quarterback, Chuck Long, who still holds five records from more than three decades ago during his years with Iowa, from 1981 to 1985, will begin his presentation at 12:30 p.m. at Santa Maria Vineyard and Winery in Carroll. Long, whose autobiography was penned by Waukee Rotarian, Aaron Putze, will provide a preview of the book, “Destined for Greatness.” He describes the highs and lows of the Hawkeye football program, particularly the struggles faced during the 1980s farm crises and his NFL career with the Detroit Lyons, and single year with the Los Angeles Rams. Long will also discuss being a Heisman Trophy candidate and his current role as Executive Director of the Iowa Sports Foundation. Copies of Long’s book will be available, and Long will sign one item for every book sold. The Carroll Rotary is opening the lunch presentation to the public for $15 per person, however RSVPs are due by today, Wednesday, March 14. Tickets are available through any Rotarian.
