Greene County Board Of Supervisors Orders Official Recount In Tight Treasurer Race

The Greene County Board of Supervisors met this (Thursday) morning to order a recount for an extremely close County Treasurer election. In a race with 4,055 ballots cast by Election Day, Democratic incumbent, Donna Lawson, lost to the Republican challenger, Katlynn Gannon-Mechaelsen, 2,026 votes to 2,024, a difference of only five-hundredths of a percent. The supervisors voted unanimously to approve a request from Lawson for a recount. According to Auditor, Jane Huen, each candidate will appoint a representative, and the representatives will then select a mutually-agreed upon third individual to form a three-person recount board. Petitioners can request recounts by hand or by machine, and Lawson has asked that both methods be utilized. Lawson will not be required to pay a recount bond because the election was decided by less than 50 votes. Huen says they have not yet scheduled a date for the recount, but it should be sometime in the near future.
