Senator Chuck Grassley is calling on the Trump administration to stand by his campaign promises to support the Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS). Grassley has been critical of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator, Scott Pruitt, since his agency’s decision to grant hardship waivers to several large refineries. Grassley says Pruitt’s view on hardship is clearly wrong.
Grassley says the EPA is now doing even more damage by granting waivers retroactively.
The waivers could cut annual production by more than a billion gallons per year to 13.8 billion. Grassley says Trump promised during his campaign to put his support behind the RFS.
Grassley expressed his frustration in mid-May, saying “I’m done playing around with this,” and indicated he will call for Pruitt’s resignation if the RFS is not fulfilled.
