Gov. Reynolds Orders Flags To Half-Staff For Burial Of Sailor Killed At Pearl Harbor

Gov. Kim Reynolds, has ordered all flags in Iowa to half-staff tomorrow (Saturday) to honor a fallen U.S. sailor. Navy Fireman 2nd-Class, George C. Ford, of Lidderdale, was killed on Dec. 7, 1941, while serving on the USS Oklahoma during the Japanese surprise attack at Pearl Harbor. The 25-year-old’s remains were accounted for on April 30, more than 76 years since the attacks and returned to his family for burial in Glidden at the Merle Hay Memorial Cemetery with full military honors. Flags will fly at half-staff at the State Capitol Building, Capital Complex and on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state. Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to participate for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
