Gov. Reynolds Issues Disaster Proclamation For Four Northwest Iowa Counties

After a tour of northwest Iowa on Saturday, Gov. Kim Reynolds issued disaster proclamations for four counties. The combination of storms that produced damaging winds, heavy rains and flooding, along with the derailment of 32 Burlington Northern Santa Fe train cars on Friday near Doon that dumped an estimated 230,000 gallons of crude oil into the floodwaters, brought about the proclamation. This allows for a waiver of certain hours of service requirements for crew response and ensures the counties of Lyon, Plymouth, Sioux and Woodbury will have access to the necessary assets for response, recovery and remediation. The plans include the construction of a temporary road to reach derailed train cars and the transportation of teams as far as Woodbury County. The state of disaster emergency went into effect on Saturday, June 23 and will expire in one month, on July 23, unless terminated or extended in writing.
