Fort Dodge Teen Charged For School Shooting Threats

Fort Dodge authorities have taken a 15-year-old male into custody following an investigation into the threat of a school shooting. On Tuesday, Feb. 27, several students contacted the school’s resource officer with the Fort Dodge Police Department and reported threats on social media and a discussion about participating in a shooting. The individuals involved were quickly identified as students in the Fort Dodge middle and high school and officers spoke directly with them, and others who were involved or had knowledge of the threats. The residence of the 15 year old was also searched, and no items capable of carrying out the shooting were located. The teen has been charged with threats of terrorism, a class D felony. He was transported to the Central Iowa Juvenile Detention Center in Eldora to await further proceedings. The Fort Dodge Police Department stresses the fact that the students who immediately reported the disturbing communications displayed exemplary actions in forestalling the potential for great harm to others.
