Flags Ordered To Half-Staff To Honor Fallen Soldiers

Monday afternoon, Gov. Kim Reynolds ordered flags to be flown at half-staff in honor of two fallen soldiers. Today (Tuesday) the remains of Army Sgt. Donald L. Baker will be laid to rest in Cedar Rapids. The 20-year-old, originally from Thornton, Ark., was reported missing in action in September of 1950 near Haman, South Korea. His remains were identified in January of this year and transported to family in Iowa for burial. On Wednesday, a memorial service will be held for Army Pfc. John H. Walker of Morning Sun. He was reported missing in November of 1944 near Schonthal, Germany. The 20-year-old’s remains were identified in April of this year and have been transported to Morning Sun to be laid to rest. Both men will receive full military honors. Flags are to remain at half-staff from 8 a.m. Tuesday morning until 5 p.m. Wednesday evening.
