FFA, Playground Equipment And Board Effectiveness On Agenda For CCSD’s Next Board Of Education Meeting

The next Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education is scheduled for next week and the FFA, a potential board self-assessment and new playground equipment will be the primary topics of discussion. According to Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Lein, the Carroll-Area FFA, which is made up of members from both Carroll and Kuemper, is facing issues with where students take their ag classes. Courses are taught at the ag building near the intersection of Clark and 5th Streets, and Lein says they will consider changes to where instruction happens.

He notes these are only preliminary discussions and no immediate changes are planned. The board will also consider examining how effective they are in managing the district. Several members attended the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB) Annual Convention last month, and Lein says the board thinks they use what they learned there to make improvement, if needed.

If the board decides to perform a self-assessment, it will likely take place in the future outside of the regular monthly meetings. The final, major topic of discussion is purchasing new equipment at Fairview Elementary. Lein says the equipment there is in good condition, but it does not cater to all of their students’ needs.

Other items appearing on the agenda include reports from building principals, funding for at-risk and dropout prevention and results from the Iowa School Report Card. The Monday, Dec. 17 meeting is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. at the Adams Elementary School. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
