Families Are Invited To Learn More About Crime And Drug Prevention While Meeting First Responders At National Night Out

A nationwide initiative that focuses on bringing communities together in the fight against crime and in drug prevention will be marking its 35th anniversary next month. For the first time, the Carroll Police Department will be bringing the county together to participate. National Night Out will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday Aug. 7 at Graham Park. Officer Tony Amdore has been instrumental in organizing for this fun, family-friendly gathering.

The event is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts, strengthen community spirit and police/community partnerships and send a message to criminals, letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

This also gives members of the community the chance to meet the officers working to protect them 24/7 as well as other first responders.

According to Amdore, there a lot of other fun activities planned for families.

The Carroll County Cattlemen will be cooking burgers for a free-will donation with the proceeds being earmarked to fund next year’s National Night Out. The police department typically oversees the event, and the goal is to have the community take over in future years. Amdore says this is a great night to learn through a fun experience and the entire county is invited to attend. It is expected that more than 38.5 million people will participate from all 50 states, some Canadian cities and on military bases around the world.
