East Sac County School District Helping Elementary School Families, Supplying Bulk Of School Supplies Beginning This Fall

Superintendent of East Sac County Community School District, Barb Kruthoff, says that discussions during building leadership team meetings led to the implementation of a new program that will provide the majority of school supplies to elementary students.

Kruthoff says come next fall, these students will need only bring a couple of personal items with them to start off the new school year.

The middle school art program will also have some supplies made available to them in the classroom. Kruthoff adds the Wall Lake building has a special notebook that teachers request for the fourth-grade class, so parents will need to purchase it on their own. The money to pay for the items will come from the general fund, and though there will still be a registration fee, the district is not raising it to cover these costs. That, Kruthoff says, would actually be counterproductive to the whole reason the district has decided to move forward with this idea.

Kruthoff adds that in addition to receiving a discounted rate for their bulk buying, many of the purchases can be reused. Art supplies, for instance, are items that will remain with the district from year-to-year and only be replaced if lost or broken. Students in middle school and high school will still receive a supply list and those items will need to be purchased by the families. Anyone with questions about this school offering is asked to contact the district office at 712-665-5000.
