Driver Loses Control And Rolls Vehicle Near Ralston Tuesday Morning

The driver of a 2000 Mitsubishi Diamante became trapped after losing control and rolling the vehicle several times. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident scene on Highway 30, near Ralston, at approximately 9:57 a.m. Tuesday morning. The initial investigation into the single-vehicle accident revealed that 52-year-old Kristlyn J. Ashby of Des Moines was eastbound when she attempted to pass a semi-tractor trailer while approaching a curve. Ashby was unable to see a westbound vehicle until she had already begun passing, and was forced to swerve back into her own lane of traffic. This maneuver caused her to lose control. She then overcorrected, veering into the north ditch where the vehicle began rolling. It finally came to rest in the adjacent field. Ashby was transported to St. Anthony Regional Hospital by Carroll County Emergency Medical Services for treatment of suspected minor injuries. The Diamante was considered a total loss with about $6,000 in damages and Ashby was cited for failure to maintain control, failure to provide proof of financial liability and no valid driver’s license. She was issued warnings for a seatbelt violation and unsafe passing. The Carroll Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
