The driver, who fled the scene of an accident in the early morning hours of Thursday, Nov. 15 has been located and cited. The Carroll Police Department reports the vehicle, a 2012 Honda Civic, was found in the 900 block of East Highway 30, and identified as belonging to 21-year-old Jonathan Corado Melendrez. The other vehicle, a 2005 Pontiac Grand Prix, was driven by 20-year-old Janys Behrendt of Carroll. At approximately 12:02 a.m. last Thursday, she contacted authorities, reporting that the suspect’s vehicle was traveling westbound on 11th Street and failed to stop at the sign posted at Clark Street. Corado Melendrez was struck broadside by Behrendt, but then fled the scene. Both vehicles were considered totaled in the accident. Corado Melendrez has been charged with failure to obey a stop sign and leaving the scene of an accident.
