Manning Regional Healthcare Center has announced the receipt of a new 3D mammography machine, thanks to the generosity of a local donor. Arlene Musfeldt lived in Manning her entire life, and she and her husband, Albert, farmed north of Manning for many years, moving into town after retiring. She spent a great deal of her time with residents at the Manning Plaza during her retirement, until she herself became a resident. When she passed away, she left an endowment with the stipulation that it make a positive impact on the place she called home. MRHC leaders decided to invest in the new 3D mammography machine as a means to fulfill that wish and to give something back to the community for many years to come. “The Arlene Musfeldt donation is potentially a lifesaving donation,” says Radiology Director, Linda Croghan. She adds that this technology is the biggest breakthrough in breast cancer detection in 30 years and that she couldn’t be more excited to offer the exams to community members. The Hologic Genius machine provides the ability to detect 20 to 65 percent more invasive breast cancers compared to 2D machines.
