Region XII Council of Governments (COG) will be hosting an educational workshop on the Derelict Building Program next month. Experts from the Iowa Department of Revenue’s (DNR) Derelict Building Program will be on hand to help communities of 5,000 or less understand the options available in addressing neglected commercial or public structures that have been vacated for six months or more. Together, the two presenters will bring more than 40 years of experience in the issues posed by derelict buildings, the resources available and how to manage the projects. The Thursday, Nov. 8 workshop in the Region XII COG’s training room (1009 East Anthony Street) will begin with dinner at 5:30 p.m. This is followed by presentations from Scott Flagg with the Iowa Derelict Building Program and architectural professional, Don Seymour. The evening will round out with a question-and-answer session at around 7:30 p.m. Cost to attend is $15 per person, and seating is limited.
