A Denison woman accused of stealing from residents at New Hope Village has made her initial appearance in District Court for Carroll County. Fifty-two-year-old Denise Marie Hjuler appeared Monday and pleaded not guilty to three counts of dependent adult abuse through exploitation of over $100, class D felonies, tampering with records, an aggravated misdemeanor, and dependent adult abuse, a simple misdemeanor. Hjuler was arrested by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Saturday on an outstanding arrest warrant. Authorities believe Hjuler took about $100 each from four clients while acting as their caretaker from Aug. 1, 2017 to Dec. 26, 2017. According to court records, she attempted to hide the thefts by altering the patients’ files. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Thursday, March 1 in District Court.
