CR-B Voters Approve Change To Way School Board Members Are Elected

Voters within the Coon Rapids-Bayard Community School District (CRB) went to the polls last night (Tuesday) and approved a change to the way school board members are elected. With a vote of 57 percent in favor and 43 percent opposed, the board will now consist of seven at-large positions, rather than six directorships and one at-large seat. The measure passed by a 14-percent margin but was largely carried by voters in Coon Rapids. Of the 83 total ballots cast, 54 were submitted at the Coon Rapids polling location, with nearly 76 percent of those in favor. The Bayard location tallied 29 total votes, with about 79 percent opposed to the change. In a statement prior to the election, Superintendent, Brett Gibbs, indicated the board decided to bring the issue to voters due to issues with finding interested candidates within the directorships.
