CR-B Officials And Law Enforcement Respond Quickly To Threatening Posts Made Against School

An intimidating social media post regarding the Coon Rapids-Bayard school was determined by school officials and police to not pose a threat to students. On Monday, Jan. 1, the Coon Rapids Police Department was notified of the threatening post at approximately 10:25 a.m. According to authorities, the posts implied possible gun violence and warned students not to return to class. Law enforcement and school administration contacted the student behind the post, and Coon Rapids Police Chief, Andy Klein, says they determined the post was made as a joke.

School officials are treating the post as serious but are unable to comment on the identity of the student or any disciplinary action the school might take. The perpetrator may face legal action though, as charges are pending against them. Klein says the post was likely an attempt to grab people’s attention.

Police will be present at the school when class resumes on Thursday, but not because there is a threat to students. Superintendent, Brett Gibbs, says this is only standard operating procedure for the district in situations such as this. This is the second time in recent months an area school has seen threats made against students on social media.
