County Engineer Says He Received A DOT Letter With Recommendations He Has Not Seen In The Past

Carroll County Engineer, Dave Paulson, told the Board of Supervisors Monday morning that he received a letter last week from the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT). A letter the likes of which he says he does not remember ever having received from this agency in the past.

Paulson says they did manage to get the Lidderdale roadwork done, and contractors are expected back in mid-October for a planned project near Breda. However, the weather could again play a factor in that schedule.

The original contract was to have that project completed at the beginning of November. Although the letter does give the county quite a bit of discretionary leeway in waiving penalties for jobs that exceed the contracted number of working days, Paulson told the supervisors that levying penalties has rarely, if ever, worked in their favor.

He says the companies they work with have done everything they can to try to live up to the terms of their contracts. He was seeking the supervisors blessing on being able to offer this benefit to them. The supervisors agreed.
