Council Awards Bid For Sac City Bridge Repair Below Projected Costs

The Sac City City Council has accepted a bid and is moving forward with bridge repairs on North 5th Street over the North Raccoon River. According to Administrator, Jamie Lawrence, the county engineer originally proposed replacing the deck on the 200-foot bridge and correcting the northbound and southbound approaches. Lawrence says the council reconsidered this plan after seeing the price tag to complete the project.

During a meeting on Tuesday evening, officials opened and reviewed bids from four companies. The council unanimously accepted the low bid of $93,194 from Grimes-based construction firm, Cramer and Associates. Lawrence says they were pleased that the bid came in a few thousand dollars below expectations.

Now that a bid has been awarded, the contractors will need to determine when construction will occur. Lawrence says they are working with Cramer and Associates to lessen the potential impact on residents.

It will take approximately two weeks to finish patching the bridge. Lawrence says they do not have a specific timeframe yet, but indicated the project will be completed before winter.
