Coon Rapids Woman Appointed To Governor’s STEM Advisory Council

On Wednesday afternoon, Gov. Kim Reynolds released a listing of Iowans who were recently appointed to commissions and boards. A Coon Rapids woman, Katherine Howell, has been named to the STEM Advisory Council, and along with all other appointees, is awaiting Senate confirmation before officially taking the role. As a member of the Iowa Governor’s STEM Advisory Council, Howell will join other members in working to strengthen and expand the STEM initiatives in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math education and introducing prekindergarten through 12th grade students to careers in these fields. The 47-member council brings together government leaders with those in business and education to collaborate on STEM-specific programs, events and resources. “These professionals come from a broad spectrum of the state’s education, business and civic sectors and will work together to lead the way toward a strong future for our state in science, technology, engineering and mathematics,” Reynolds says. “This group was created to advise our office on ways to improve STEM education and innovation and economic development.”
