Coon Rapids Man Lands In County Jail After Throwing A Punch And Stealing Alcohol

A Coon Rapids man was arrested Tuesday evening for allegedly assaulting another person at a bar and stealing a bottle of alcohol while intoxicated. At approximately 7:32 p.m., the Coon Rapids Police Department responded to a report of a fight at the Northside Bar in the 500 Block of Main Street. Authorities allege 31-year-old Travis Jeffrey Barker struck the victim in the face, which resulted in wounds serious enough to require stitches. He is also accused of taking a bottle of alcohol, valued at $60, from behind the bar and hiding it under a bench outside. Barker then left the scene and was located nearby, exhibiting bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech and the odor of alcohol on his person. He was taken into custody after refusing to take a preliminary breath test (PBT) and transported to the Carroll County jail, where he was charged with assault causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor, and fifth-degree theft and public intoxication, both simple misdemeanors. Barker was released on his own recognizance Wednesday. He is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing on Thursday, Jan. 10.
