The City of Carroll has approved the purchase of a new piece of equipment, a combination sewer cleaner. Four bids were received, but Director of Public Works, Randy Krauel, says the lowest one of these, from Trans Iowa Equipment, did not meet the bid specifications.

Krauel says they had gone to great lengths in determining the specifications, including those for the tires.

The trade-in vehicle is 21 years old, and Krauel says the expected lifetime of this $350,928 machine is not quite that long, but likely a little more than half. According to the manufacturer, the sewer cleaner combines high-pressure water spray with a high-flow vacuum. This is used to clear sewer blockages as well as a maintenance tool to maintain normal flow.
