Chase Reaching Up To 98 Miles An Hour Through Carroll County Began With A License Check By A Conservation Officer

A high-speed chase, reaching speeds of up to 98 miles per hour, through Carroll County on Tuesday morning all began with a check done by of one of the county’s conservation officers. Shortly before 8:30 a.m., that officer ran the plate of a car that was located at Swan Lake State Park, and received word that the 2010 Ford Fusion had been reported stolen out of Fort Dodge. The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office was notified that the vehicle was leaving Swan Lake and possibly headed towards Carroll. A deputy spotted the car, eastbound on Highway 30, near the Ace Hardware lot. The deputy signaled with his lights for the vehicle to stop, and when that did not happen, he activated the siren. The driver continued at a high rate of speed out of town on Highway 30, and the pursuit was underway. The driver led several different law enforcement officers south onto Quail Avenue before turning back eastbound on 215th Street, then south again on Robin Avenue to 225th Street. Here he changed directions, heading north on Sycamore and east again on 220th, before blowing through a stop sign at the Timber Avenue intersection. The vehicle, however, crashed into a ditch near the next intersection at Union Avenue and 220th Street, just a little over 10 minutes after the chase began. The official report does not list any residency information or age for the suspect, Andrew Jensen, who was taken into custody at the scene and booked into the Carroll County jail. He has been charged with eluding and driving while suspended, both serious misdemeanors, and reckless driving and failure to obey a stop sign, simple misdemeanors.
