CCSD Board Of Education Hears Complaints Over Logo On Scoreboard At Monday Meeting

Several Kuemper High School (KHS) students and one parent attended last night’s (Monday) Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education meeting to express concerns about the recently installed scoreboard at the Carroll Athletic Field. Alex Heiman, who will be starting his senior year at Kuemper in August, used the meeting’s public forum to seek answers about a Carroll Tigers logo appearing near the top.

He was joined by his mother, Jill Heiman, and three of his classmates, John Mayhall, Connor Stoelk and Jacob Heitshusen. They indicated that they did not represent Kuemper in any official capacity, but Jill Heiman says she and many families, both Carroll and Kuemper, feel like the logo is unfair to Knights fans.

She adds that logos or signage in other places would also be unfair. Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Lein, told the group their concerns were understandable, but the board would be unable to consider a motion on the issue during the meeting.

He and Board Member, Gina Badding, say they have already explored options to make incorporating Kuemper signage easy.

The board thanked the group for bringing the issue to their attention. According to Business Manager, Gary Bengtson, the electronic display was funded entirely through the district’s sales tax fund, and no money from the stadium’s bond referendum was used towards the scoreboard.
