CCSD Board of Education Begins Discussions On New FFA And Ag Facilities

The Carroll Community School District (CCSD) Board of Education opened discussions last night (Monday) on creating additional space for agricultural instruction and the FFA chapter. Currently, the ag program, which includes students from Carroll and Kuemper, operates out of a building at the intersection of Clark and 5th Streets. Superintendent, Dr. Kevin Lein, says the program would likely be much more efficient if it were located closer to the high-school campus.

The first concern for the board is where they would build a new FFA building, if they chose to go that route. Ag Instructor, Brady Eischeid, submitted his thoughts on the issue to the board in writing. He says moving the classes closer to the high school would result in an increase in instructional time and allow for the program to potentially expand in the future. Lein says Building and Grounds Supervisor, Jeff Dvorak, recommends the area to the south of the high school as the most viable option available. President, Jen Munson, notes that keeping it nearby existing structures could make things easier.

According to Business Manager, Gary Bengtson, there are a lot of unknowns at this point in time. He says the costs could vary dramatically.

The board has concerns beyond cost, such as what kind of impact moving the facilities would have on the Kuemper students or ones enrolled in Doug Leiting’s existing industrial technology courses. They directed Lein to gather more information before they move forward with the project.

Possible changes to the preschool calendar, the purchase of new playground equipment and at-risk/dropout prevention funding were also discussed at Monday’s meeting. Carroll Broadcasting will bring you more on those topics in future broadcasts.
