Carroll Woman Ordered To Pay Restitution After Reaching Plea Agreement For Theft Charge In District Court

A Carroll woman has been sentenced to pay nearly $1,500 in fines and legal fees after pleading guilty to stealing nearly $700 dollars in goods from the Carroll Walmart. Twenty-eight-year-old Robin Marie McCarty’s plea deal was accepted by the District Court for Carroll County on Thursday, Jan. 4. Originally charged with third-degree theft, an aggravated misdemeanor, McCarty’s crime was reduced to fifth-degree theft, a simple misdemeanor as a part of the plea agreement. She was ordered to pay $691.64 in restitution to Walmart, legal fees and serve one year of probation. Criminal records against her shall be expunged at the conclusion of a successful probation period. The charge stemmed from an incident in April of 2017 in which McCarty placed multiple items into a shopping cart and attempted to leave the store without paying for them.
